The hollow branches of the quiver tree was used by bushmen to make quivers for thier arrows. It is endemic to the Northen Cape and southwestern Namibia, and is threatened by Global Warming. The Richtersveld is in the heart of the Succulent Karoo Biodiversity Hotspot, the only arid desert biodiversity hotspot, with over 4840 succulent plants, 40% of which are endemic.
