Single small tree on the horizon of a barren landscape covered with rocks and charred sticks (remains of burned vegetation) on white sand, sunlight showing though storm clouds in sky
Although fire can be devistating, the indigenous fynbos of the Cape is adapted to fire and many plants rely on the heat for seed germination while others sprout from their stems during the first spring after a fire. Many animals are also adapted to survive the cool fynbos fires. However, alien vegetation tends to burn hotter than indigenous plants and can be too hot for the fynbos to survive.
